Bluetooth devices list

A list of the already paired UMB devices is displayed on tapping the Bluetooth connection symbol at the top right of the screen (only one device is connected in the provided example).

If the Bluetooth connection is already active, the device is highlighted while all other devices are grayed out. Only one active connection to the sensor is possible.

When tapping on a listed sensor, the following operations, which are dependent on the actual connection status, can be performed:

There is no connection to the selected device; the app will try to establish a Bluetooth connection. This is especially necessary if the active MARWIS connection partner needs to be changed.

If there is a Bluetooth connection to the device, detailed information and configuration settings are provided.

Since the MARWIS app can be connected to all kinds of UMB devices and more than one device can be connected and supported, the Bluetooth devices display is designed as a list. In most cases, however, only one MARWIS-UMB will be connected and displayed.

Tapping a device on the list – if a Bluetooth connection exists – forwards you to the device configuration.

Device Configuration

Besides displaying general information about the actual, connected MARWIS such as software and hardware versions, etc., various device settings can be adjusted.

Below is a brief description of the most important parameters.

  • Description: a description of the device.
  • Enable Status LED: activates or deactivates the status LED on the front of the sensor.
  • Measurement Interval [ms]: the output rate in milliseconds, 1000 ms means once per second, for example.
  • Water-film damp threshold: any value above this water-film height will result in a road condition output of “damp”.
  • Water-film height wet threshold: any value above this water-film height will result in a road condition output of “wet”.
  • Interference suppression: the interval in ms for interference suppression.
  • Bluetooth pairing: if switched off, the information about the Bluetooth connection is deleted.
  • Measurement interval: interval in which the measurement data of MARWIS is determined and accessed by the app (100 ... 5000 ms).
  • FBZ model: the model used to calculate road condition. Possible values are:
    • AVG
    • Winter 1
    • Winter 2
    • Winter 3
    • Summer 1
    • Summer 2

the MARWIS user manual contains further information about the configuration parameters.

“Adjustment profiles” and “pyrometer offset” appear at the bottom of the final settings list. Since the adaption of adjustment profiles in particular plays an important role, these settings are subsequently described in more detail.

All configuration changes will not take effect until this view (via “MARWIS Devices” at top left) is transferred to the device. A dialog box requiring confirmation appears before the transfer. Since the configuration changes will only be applied and activated after a MARWIS reboot, the MARWIS sensor is restarted automatically after the configuration has been written.

Close the App

The app is designed as a dashboard application, i.e., to display the readings, etc. during a measurement drive.

Even with the app running in the background (by pressing the “home” button on the device), only the display of the unit will be switched off – the app continues to collect data and transmits them to the server if necessary.

To really end the application, the app must be closed by tapping the “application” button.

You can swipe or tap the “X” and the app will be closed completely.

Another option is to close it via the task/application manager, which can be reached via the general Android device settings.
